From what I can tell you can only set one type of auto-group promotion thing. Are there plans to make it possible for a group change to be dependent on multiple criteria (i.e. minimum posts AND minimum registered time), or is that already possible and I'm too blind to see it?

That is possible. The key word being AND... it does not do OR.

Ahh, alright. So if I set two "Auto Groups" for the same group, it will require both criteria before making the change?

Wait, I was wrong... It is OR, not AND...

If a user satisfies any criteria for a group, they will be added. Each Auto Group rule is independent of the others. But a user will not be removed from a group if the fail to satisfy 1 criteria but still meet another.

That'd be awesome, and I'd probably be able to help if you need it. I've got a client who is considering switching from MyBB to phpBB (because obviously phpBB is better) but MyBB has this group promotion thing that I'd need to provide in phpBB as well, and it allows AND by default.

I'll say hi on IRC some time.

What would be cool is that when a member of that group exceeds a number of days/warnings/posts, it would come off. Not like a minimum and maximum value, only a maximum value. Would it be possible?

It can do that. Min (and max) can be 0 (optional).

I have a use case which I think would not quite work out: I have a 'for sale' forum, which people cannot post in until they have 25 posts in the rest of the board. This is done through an auto-group with posting permission set to 'never' (I cannot use 'no' as the normal registered user group overrides that with its 'yes' permission).

However, I would like to be able to make exceptions (set some people with fewer than 25 posts to be able to post in the forum). Am I right in believing that if I remove a user from a group manually the extension at some point will automatically re-add him?

Would it be possible to make this exception, considering I am already using the 'never' permission which overrides everything?

That is correct. If you are treating users manually, that is adding some but not others, then "auto" grouping probably isn't for you in this case. Auto grouping is intended for purely automated purposes.

That's a shame, but understandably outside the scope of the extension. I may try and write a small extension which plugs into this one adding a rule type for adding/removing people to a group based on being a member of another group. Together with the AND logic that would allow me to make an 'exceptions'-group

But that'll have to be at some later point.

Question: can this extension use the contents of profile fields to automatically assign users to groups?

If not out of the box, is it possible to configure it to do it? With an (additional) extension?
