Hi dmzx I want to make a suggestion regarding mchat. You know in mchat we have option to display new topics etc and they are posted in chat box but there is one issue with that they disappear after x amount of new comments, so people that come later miss those notifications. So i would like to see a separate box above or below chat box where these informations about new topics would be displayed or they should be stick to the chat box so they don't disappear and on top of that they should automatically hide after you view them so this box or chat box would not be filled with those notifications. Idk if this is possible at all but I want You to think about it :)

Is there a way so that the chat is clear for each new user?

So someone joining the chat only sees messages from the point they join?

Thanks in advance. :)

No... I don't think a user's register date is available in the index page or in the mChat custom page.

It is possible though.
You would have to pull that info from the users db and create a template var for that info in the mChat core file. Then you could use an IF statement to compare the post date >= user's register date to show the posts. But I don't think there is any simple way to do that.

Was this into reply to my comment?

If so, what I'm trying to achieve is just that when the chat is loaded, it's empty, so each user starts a blank slate within the chat.

Yes that was a reply to your comment. And the chat would be empty right after they registered, there would be a blank page. But if someone made a post 5 seconds after they registered that post would show but nothing posted prior to their registration time would show.

But as I said, there is no data available on the index page or the mChat custom page to be able to do that.

Several posts regarding this and how to address it in phpBB.

The solutions folks offered fixed it for me as well.

A quick search/review of this thread and you would find several posts with the answer.

I will help you out. For phpBB 3.1 you need to 'enable URL rewriting'. Open your forum ACP, under General look under the Server Configuration section, then select Server Settings. In the Path Settings section change 'enable URL rewriting' from No to Yes. That will fix your issue with the smilies.

Not a solution for people without Apache, like Nginx.

the workaround does work for Apache users but only if your hosting supports mod_rewrite which is a requirement for enabling URL Rewriting in the board ACP Server settings. it's just a routing issue in the extension
