Re: [RC] mChat

Post by kasimi » Tue Sep 20, 2016 8:17 pm

mChat 2.0.0-RC6 is out now.

I have revised the first post and added the download link for the latest version. Lots of new stuff to check out, don't miss it! Updating is as simple as always, just follow the official update steps listed here: https://www.phpbb.com/extensions/installing/#updating

If you find any bugs please report them here or create a GitHub issue. The sooner I get feedback about RC6 the sooner it will be submitted for validation. You can follow mChat's development in the new GitHub repository here: https://github.com/kasimi/mChat

Happy chatting. :)

What do you mean by instant chat? The attachment you linked to can only be accessed with an account but I'm fairly sure that their extension doesn't use WebSockets which is as close to instant as you can get. Set mChat's refresh rate to 5 seconds and you're pseudo-instant. :)

Have you updated the version checking because I'm running RC5 and when clicking check versions in ACP it still shows RC5 as green (latest version)

At this time there are no plans to add this to mChat.

You need to ask dmzx as the version check file is on his server for mChat versions <= 2.0.0-RC5. This reminded me though that I forgot to add the version check to RC6, which I just did. The RC6 package has been updated with only these lines changed: https://github.com/kasimi/mChat/compare ... ...f6dc2e7

Suggestion: move the version check to GitHub and update the extension to look at that instead, although I'm not entirely sure if https is working for version checks in the current 3.1. :geek:

Thanks David, this is what I just did. It seems HTTPS is supported since phpBB 3.1.8. Is there a way to make Github serve the version file over HTTP?

Yes, I have simply removed the same version checking code from RC5 for now. I will install RC6 later in a few weeks after maybe some bugs gets reported ironed out it further, or you spot things missed yourself - I'm in no rush really to install RC6 yet because I've pretty heavily modified RC5.

It appears you've been too thorough while modifying RC5. Don't expected any support or further replies from me until you've put back all names from the original copyright notice. This applies to all files you modified.

Fair enough, but not like I share it with anyone else trying to take credit away from you and is only used on my site only. Actually, it isn't even called MCHAT used on my forum now, all files was changed to name it Shoutbox instead and some css was even changed for prosilver (to fix an issue with avatars being able to use a border) because you used padding wrong instead of margin spacing - and other things added like H Tag for main shoutbox page title. http://general-discussion.com/shoutbox

I have made a lot of changes to it for use with my site only and not for anyone else to use it. I wouldn't do that sharing it and try and take any credit away from you. It just modifications to suit my site only
