Hello,

I can't find the setting in the ACP to configure how long the messages will be kept in the archive. Is this to do with the pruning setting?

Basically, I'd like the archive to keep two weeks worth of messages. How do I do this? Do I activate the pruning setting and set it to 1209600 seconds?! if so, It'd be nice to gave an hour, day, week, month option - as with the Messages to retain when pruning : option!

Regards,

Henry

"Message prune task interval:" put the 1209600 seconds and it will work for 14 days ;)
OR
Select "Messages to retain when pruning:" and put 2 and choose Weeks.

Thanks Tarantino!

I would have preferred to enter 2 weeks than 1209600 seconds!

Which do you recommend? 1209600 seconds in the "Message prune task interval" or 2 weeks in the "Messages to retain when pruning"?

The way I see it these are 2 different settings.
"Messages to retain when pruning" is what messages to keep when the pruning runs. So 2 weeks would keep only the messages from the last 2 weeks.

"Message prune task interval" is what interval between pruning tasks. So if you set 36000 seconds, then the pruning will run every 10 hours and cleanup messages that are older then 2 weeks as set by the other parameter.

I could be mistaken but this is how it sounds to me.

GoBieN is correct. Messages to retain is for specifying which messages should be deleted, the Message prune task interval is for specifying how often the Messages to retain condition should be checked. If you set both to 14 days you will have messages as old as 28 days.

As a general rule, you only need to modify the pruning interval if Messages to retain is less than 24 hours.

For example, you want messages older than three hours to be deleted. Without adjusting the pruning interval, which by default is 24 hours, messages older than three hours are deleted only once a day, which means you will have messages as old as 27 hours in the archive. To solve this you would set the pruning interval to, say one hour. Now every hour all messages older than three hours are deleted.

So, in your case of two weeks, set Messages to retain to two weeks. Only change the pruning interval if you want to check for outdated messages more often/aggressively.

some users are with this problem:

when new answers appear in the chat it crashes, it can no longer move the scroll bar to view previous messages, then I have to refresh the page to return to normal, tested in firefox and chrome and the two are equal.

I cannot fix issues unless you describe what I need to do to get the same problem. What are the users that have these problems doing? Did they check the browser console for any JavaScript errors? It sounds like an incompatibility with another extension or a style but without a detailed description how to reproduce the problem I'm unable to help.

Why does proSilver CSS file for RC6 and RC7 have #mchat-input Class ID listed two times. It is only listed one time when the input box stayed small and worked proper with RC5 version

RC5 version:

Code: Select all

#mchat-input {
	cursor: text;
	width: 50%;
	font-size: 1.1em;
	padding: 5px 5px 4px;
	margin: 5px 20px;
}
RC6 Version:

Code: Select all

	#mchat-input {
		width: 95% !important;
		margin: 5px 0 !important;
	}

Code: Select all

#mchat-input {
	cursor: text;
	width: 50%;
	min-width: 50%;
	max-width: 90%;
	font-size: 1.1em;
	padding: 5px 5px 4px;
	margin: 5px 20px;
}

Code: Select all

textarea#mchat-input {
	height: 8em;
}
RC7 version:

Code: Select all

	#mchat-input {
		width: 95% !important;
	}

Code: Select all

#mchat-input {
	cursor: text;
	width: 50%;
	min-width: 50%;
	max-width: 95%;
	font-size: 1.1em;
	padding: 5px 5px 4px;
	margin: 5px auto;
}

Code: Select all

textarea#mchat-input {
	height: 8em;
}
As you can see there are differences between all 3 RC versions. But something is going wrong with RC7 version (I never tested RC6) that I mentioned before. I don't get with RC6 and RC7 why you have same class ID listed two times and use "width important!" on one of them to (override) having max-width and min-width in other with same class ID. You also have margin listed two times as well. Doesn't look right being that way and might be cause of the problems with input box staying wide after you enter something long in it and press submit button (not returning back small width again).

EDIT: Seems I missed (overlooked) that one the two "#mchat-input" entries comes under "@media-screen" and why two are listed.

Hi. Is there any way to stop mchat from auto-scrolling when new messages are entered?

This is possible in 2.0.0-RC6 (and was improved in RC7): scroll a few pixels away from the top or bottom, depending on where your new messages appear. When new messages are added it will stay at that position. In other words, auto-scrolling only happens if you have scrolled to the very top or bottom.
