The only issue I see in this is that as Style designers explore, they will use their own coding.
On several extensions that utilize this method, certain areas are then assumed and programmed (Hooked to Style elements), this then ends up with the end user having a side bar/menu is a black Background, but also the text is black as well.
So the end user would (at this time) end up going in to the CSS to make adjtsments anyways.....I have been stuck with this more times than I care to count.

This is why, IMHO, it would seem that the ability to make color adjustments from teh extenesion's ACP properties would be a way to go.....

I additionally think that if an enxtension programmer could make a template of of the color portion of teh extensions properties, this then could be added to all their other extensions....

I hope I am making sense, I am by no means any sort of programmers

It would be possible but the colour values would need to be stored in the database. Client-side CSS caching is preferred over server-side SQL query caching. What's still on the todo list is to move style-independent CSS in mchat.css from prosilver to all and create style-dependent CSS files. Your adjustments would go in a separate file so that your custom CSS is not modified when prosilver styling is updated.

Basically anywhere you want. Remember that if you add it to mchat.css and you install a new version of mChat this file is overwritten, so you will need to add your custom CSS again. By the way, what style are you using? Are all panels headings centered?

I tried to do this to the best of my knowledge but I'm no CSS guru by far. Maybe somebody with more experience wants to take a look at that. :)

yes, style designers can and do use their own coding to "customize" a style. in my chat extension, when chat doesn't look like it should in a style, all that is needed is a custom template and possibly a css tweak. i have done this many times and just add the style folder with the tweaked files into the extension making it as plug and play as possible. when a template is made for a specific style, chat then looks like it is part of the style and blends with everything. having the colour settings in the ACP can lead to its own set of issues... most notably would be if you had both dark and light coloured styles on your board or a green and a red based style... which do you decide on ;)

i personally think all extensions should blend with whatever style is used

Hello! I have just installed the newest version of mChat on my server and at first glace I am quite pleased.

However, the extension seems to have added a link in my site's navbar that is causing some problems. Is there a way to remove the navbar link to the mChat? Also for clarification, it is not causing technical problems, all the links to the other various custom pages work fine; it is creating a weird display problem seeing as the navbar was already full of links to other places. The mChat link got wedged in there as well and just looks a little off.

I am using the "Black" style from the phpBB database in version 3.1.7-pl1.

Thank you for any help that you may be able to offer.

Here's how to remove it:

Delete the file /ext/dmzx/mchat/styles/prosilver/template/event/overall_header_navigation_append.html
If someone has a solution to add the navbar link so that it fits properly for the Black style please share.

I deleted the file (after making a backup) and the site returned a "fatal error". I replaced the file and everything is as it was haha.

Can we get a snap shot image of the menu bar and what it is doing.

I fret that just eliminating the code is not a proper solution, but works.
This may leave a stand alone or custom page behind that then may not be accessible

Since I am not worried about a stand alone chat page.
I simply turn off the "Custom Page:" setting in the ACP extension
This also eliminates the link in the menu ;)

All chatting can be handled through the Portal/Home Page, or Forum Index
