Becouse it is more "social"... you won't close forum window and when arrive any notification change the title and there is a sound. (in future).

or if you're seeing the forum or a topic and someone post a new reply, you see without the page reload

Many people no longer frequents the forum because of social networks, but analyzing eg facebook .. what could be its strengths?
The immediacy .. a user posts and others see it almost immediately .. I ask you why this should not be good?
Sorry for my bad English ..

I like the idea. Nobody will be forced to install it if they don't want to

Oh right... One of the main reasons I don't like facebook...
In that case, I can't value if this is worth anything... Carry on...

that is, you prefer to wait... I'm not sure you're talking seriously.. this could be an added value for the forums that give support for example.. also encourage conversation between users... I just can not understand what there may be negative in everything.

this is actually a good thing.

Two of probably the best forum softwares out there obviously already have this and are way ahead of phpbb.
and it's not that phpbb will die to them. Their complexity in using/setting up is no where near as user friendly as phpbb.

This could be a great addition to the phpbb wider community. Hopefully we will see it soon. As long as it's written well. I would be interested in the load/stress this may put on the server.

The problem i see is,

this is perfect when there is only a couple online, but could be problematic if say 50 plus are. And when you have 50 plus users online at once, is when this would be more beneficial.

Just because you don't like the idea, doesn't mean others will not like it.
