At some point (phpBB 2) the developers removed the phpBB's version from the footer, for SECurity reasons. ;)

May I ask if you think that's the case to reintroduce such a possible dangerous stuff back?

also, the visitors don't care what version of what software you are using and for the admins it is right there on the main page of the admin panel.

I can't agree with this kind of thinking. I'm sure that users want really to know if they are using the newest and updated to latest version script of board, which is for them and their data safe as well.
Perhaps there will be administrators who want to inform users as very timely and safe is their board.

Had passed several years and almost everyone stopped using phpbb2 version. I hope that now phpbb3 is much more secure and safe enough to reintroduce this stuff back :) .
I know, you are never safe enough to be sure that you are really safe ;) .

Anyway, thank you very much for opinion of the users who are much more experienced than me.

I am in both camps here.

I don't think that these days knowing which version you have installed poses a security risk as anyone who is that way inclined will just try anyway and probably will not even access the site to find out the version.

But I also agree that very few users are that concerned as to which version is in use and most would not even know if it was the latest or not.

But hey, it is an extension and it is up to the site Admin whether it is used or not.

Well, you may consider to set up a group permission to see the version in footer to restore a bit of security.

To install v 1.0.0-RC1 you need to uninstall previus version and delete them.
Then download a new archive and follow the instructions from the first post.
