Inactive User Manager - phpBB updating advice please

Post by colinshead » Sat Jul 13, 2019 3:20 pm

Hi Andreas,

I have the released version running really well to automate our user cancellation process. Our users have to log in at least once a year to retain an account; so I have the delay between reminders set at 120 days, and auto delete set to 30 days after the 3rd reminder - it works a treat.

I will soon have to update phpBB to version 3.2.7 (currently 3.2.5).

Normally I disable all extensions when updating, then re-enable after phpBB has been updated. Question is if I do this will this affect the data held by the extension ? Obviously if that was the case it would cause problems with our user cancellation process.

If IUM is updated in the future this might also cause issues unless the data/data structures remain the same, or are updated as part of the IUM update process.

All the best

Colin

Hi Colin,

Thank you for your kind words!
A phpbb update should not affect the data stricture of my extension unless I guess there are some extreme changes on the side of phpbb. Which is highly unlikely to happen.

About IUM, I'll need to know the exact version you've installed, to see which db structure you have.

Best regards,

Andreas

It seems that you have the latest stable version with the new db structure.
So any future updates should not cause any of the problems you mention.

Re: Reminder language versions

Post by NWM » Thu Aug 01, 2019 1:32 pm

Hello,

I have installed your extension and it works perfectly well. Thank you!

But a french user of my board just tells me that he received the reminder email in German. Could you please tell me why?
I have installed the email reminder files in German, French and English which corresponds with the language versions of my board.

Hi Nico,

Sorry for not replying to you earlier but my spare time is not that much nowadays.

This could happen because the extension does not have a translation for this user. So the extension (should) sends the reminder to what is set for the default language of the phpbb board (usually English but not always).

So if your default language is set to German and the user has set his language for instance to Japanese, IUM will sent the reminder in German because it does not have a translation (for now) in Japanese.
You should look what language is set for the user(s) and see if this is the case.
Let me know your findings!

Best regards,

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

thank you for your kind reply.

You are wright. Some of my french users had effectively their default board language set to German. That’s why it’s quite normal that they receive the reminder email in German.

I know why they didn’t change their board language to French. Their board language is selected automatically via a mod called « Browser-Language-Detection ». So, if their browser language is set to French, they use the board in French despite the default language setting set to German.

All the best
Nico

Ah! yes, that of course could also be a reason! :)
I am happy that you could find a solution to the problem!

All the best!

It is a shame that such a good extension will end up at the end.
It is a great extension.

A question, if an e-mail is sent. Is my name as the sender
Surely the name of the forum should be there?
How can I change this?
Sorry English is not my native language

Hoi Willem.

A RC_2 is actively developed, since there are some points that needs to be rewritten to follow the guidance of phpbb validation team.
It is 90% complete there are just some few changes left and I will submit it again for validation.

As for your issue.

Could you please show me an example of what you mean?

Best regards,

Andreas

What is the version of IUM you have?
Also could you please find any line that has $xhead_username in andreask/ium/classes/reminder.php and paste them here?
There should be at least 4 lines.

Thanks
