Re: [3.1][3.2][BETA] Feed post bot

Post by Mesto » Thu Mar 23, 2017 10:49 pm

Sorry, but now it doesn't work with me at all.

I've deactivated the extension, I've deleted data, I've deleted all files of the extension and cache by ftp, I've loaded up the new version and I've activated it. Now, If I try to add the RSS URL again, I get always following error.

Code: Select all

[phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file [ROOT]/ext/ger/feedpostbot/classes/driver.php on line 162: file_get_contents(http://www.slovenskenovice.si/rss/novice): failed to open stream: Connection refused
Almost the same error at other URL's (exept the URL).

Well, the error says quite cleary that the connection is refused. This can be either on your server side or on the server of slovenskenovice.si. It cannot open a stream, therefore it cannot fetch the content either.

Do other feeds work for you?

Thank you. It appears at every entry now. I will let it check by Hoster, because every URL is reachable by Browser.

I've installed this on my forum, and it's working great. I do have one concern that a few members have raised. I also use the "Recent Topics" extension, and because of the news bot it has completely filled that recent topics box with news articles. Is there any way for me to have the user account I have posting the news articles filtered from showing up in the recent topics box?

I don't know how that extension works actually. Any filtering would be applied by that extension I guess. Can't you exclude the forum that's posted in for example?

Hi,
interesting extension. Would be a nice replacement for this one: in 3.2 viewtopic.php?f=496&t=2284536
Are there plans to implement posting templates? For example something like that

Code: Select all

[quote][sfnc_item_description][/quote]

Source: [url=[sfnc_item_link]]RSS-Feed: [sfnc_item_title][/url]

Interesting suggestion. I think I can implement this, but what would be the benefit of this opposed to the current options? Is it only about the the quotes?

sorry for my late answer.
It's not only about quotes. You can play around with the elements of the feeds. For example embed the pictures or add the authors name or use the copyright notice of this feed.
For instance in one feed I can use the following elements:

[sfnc_item_title]
[sfnc_feed_name]
[sfnc_item_link]
[sfnc_item_description]
[sfnc_feed_language]
[sfnc_feed_copyright]
[sfnc_feed_generator]
[sfnc_feed_lastBuildDate]
[sfnc_item_guid]
[sfnc_item_pubDate]
[sfnc_item_category]
[sfnc_item_enclosure]

In other cases the description is too long or I only want to use the linked title with a date. So in short it would give us a little bit more flexibility :-).

Can you provide the feed URL and a link to the specific item that the post points to?

For that I would need to rewrite quite some parts of the extension. While I see the benefit, I doubt it would be used very much.

It looks for new items every half hour and post them to a specified forum.
this sounds promising but I would like to know can the time be changed to something longer other than every 30 minutes?

It's not a setting atm. You can change it in the cron service file.

Hello PaulusB,
Can you please provide me with an example of a feed that triggers this? I can't seem to reproduce this.
