question:
how it would be possible to translate and manage also the top "acceptance" banner in different languages?

Translate the language files

Translate the language files
Yes, what you said surely would be possible, but I don't want to replace the original english language files, rather I would like to add the translations in italian, in order to give the option to the user to choose the preferred language also of the top banner, similarly to what I did already through the ACP for the texts of the Cookie Policy, Privacy Acceptance, Privacy Policy, Terms of Use (2)

You would create a set of files additional to en and put them in a folder it

Good info, thanks, I didn't know that I could simply create an it folder and put the files translated into it, and the system would already work automatically..

I guess that I missed some useful instructions already given somewhere

I did as you said above here, but unfortunately the result is that I can not switch to italian anymore, both the UI and the policies texts..

unbelievable, as soon as I uploaded the "it" folder with its new files into the "language" folder of the privacy policy extension, I lost the chance to change the board language, ie if I try, nothing happens, I see just english..
the italian language pack is still there, I restored also the backup I did yesterday when everything was working perfectly, purged all the caches, even manually through FTP.. but nothing..

I have no idea what you have done but my guess would be that one, or more, of your language files have an error in them - or they may not have been saved in the correct format.

With Notepad++ I edited the text language only of privacypolicy.php and ucp_privacypolicy.php and I saved them in the same format they were into the "it" folder where I added also the remaining files copied from the "en" folder..

then with Filezilla (binary mode) I uploaded the "it" folder into the "language" folder of the "privacy policy" extension..

however what is really strange is that even if I disable the extension and clean its data, the board language change function doesn't work anymore, even if I restore the backup made when there were no problems at all

Luckily I've been able to get back the board UI language change functionality, first I deleted the board italian language and then I reinstalled the language pack again, and it worked..

I wonder why the extension may affect the board UI language change functionality

I have never heard of that happening before. I am not an expert on language packs so I really have no ideas - sorry.

Version RC6 released - see first post for download.

Changes in this version
  • Integrated with the Auto Groups extension
  • Anonymise user IP addresses on posts, polls & PMs
  • Ability to accept/unaccept a user's Privacy Policy via the ACP (Privacy data)
  • Tapatalk detection and if found display a banner in the ACP
  • Several bug fixes
  • Some code improvements
Also there are some more changes (not many) in the language files (sorry)

To install this version
  • Disable the Privacy Policy extension - there is no need to Delete Data
  • Delete the files
  • Upload the new files
  • Enable the extension

I solved the problem, and I also installed the rc6 with success..

At the end I discovered that the apostrophe I inserted in the translated texts was the cause of the problem, copying and pasting instead the one given in the written explanation in the php files solved the problem..

Now also the top banner can be displayed in italian if the user/guest wants to, but the "require cookie acceptance" setting must not be enabled, otherwise the user/guest can not change anything until the cookie policy is accepted as it is (in english)..

Good!

Thanks again for your work and help

It's not the first time you forum has been offline because you did not test your changes on a copy of your live forum.
Not true
Ok, perhaps offline was not the correct wording: change that to online but not functional.
The point was that whatever is changed on your forum (or.. generalised: a forum):
a) a backup should be taken by yourself ( = removing that dependency on your host)
b) test everything on a local installation with the same specifications (as close as possible)
c) test everything on a copy of your live site
This may sound like overkill but the (little bit of) extra work saves a lot of time (and can identify problems which an extension writer may not have encountered, no matter how much testing was done).
A bug is a feature that hasn't made it to the manual (yet)
