[CDB] Modern quote - multiquote and quote highlighted text

Post by Ger »

Extension Name: Modern quote
Author: Ger

Extension Description:
This extension enables you to highlight (select) parts of posts and quote only that highlighted part. It works similar to the quoting function in the topic review when you are on the posting page.
Once you have selected a part of a post, a floating quote button appears near your cursor. Clicking that new button does the magic. When quick reply is enabled, the quote BBcode is inserted in the QR textarea. Otherwise, you'll be taken to the posting.php page just like with hitting the regular quote button but with only the highlighted part of the post.

A second feature is multi-quoting. You can tick a new multiquote button on each post. When you have selected one or more posts to quote, a floating quote button appears in the bottom right corner. Clicking that button takes you to the posting screen as with regular quoting but now you have multiple posts quoted in your message textarea.

I'll give this version a shot and let you know how it goes.

Okay, so this time the quote bottom is way at the bottom. If you can discover some type of code the places the quote button near the quoted text it would be a very good thing to do. I haven't tried this with a smartphone yet.

Seems it wasn't possible with CSS only, so I've implemented a JS solution. How's this for you?

PS: I've noticed a limitation of ±2000 characters when quoting selected text without the QR function. I need to look into this.

I'm in the middle of changing domains. So once I get that all sorted out I'll try this new version.

I've added some to the TS, but these will probably change during development

Very nice, Ger!

A thing: when quoting a part of a post, the username is empty!

Is there something planned for permissions? So only admins or moderators can use it? I use a extension "No quote last post" to stop users to quote the last post (i hate that :) ) but with your extension it's possible again.

Is it? Haven't noticed that. Is that with de quick reply enabled, or with the full editor?

It simply follows the quoting enabled/disabled from the template.

I assume you use this version? Seems unvalidated and after taking a quick glance at the code it doesn't surprise me.

That extension doesn't force anything, just hassles the template a bit. Since I'm adding code to the same event in my extension those might conflict.

Yep, that's the one. Well it's not really a conflict, i just have to find another way to disable quoting of the last post.

Sorry Ger, my mistake, it's only on quick reply. If that's switched of the author is in the quote.
