[CDB] Show Subforum Images

Post by battye » Sun Dec 16, 2018 8:28 am

Extension Name: Show Subforum Images
Author: battye

Extension Description: This is an extension for phpBB 3.2.x that causes forum images that are specified for subforums to be shown on the index page and the viewforum page within the forum list.
Extension Version: v1.0.0 (Beta 3)

Extension Download: Zip - v1.0.0 (Beta 3) \ GitHub Repo

Screenshots:

I made this extension because of the request at viewtopic.php?f=641&t=2495361 - I think generally speaking, forum images don't work too well with prosilver. So if you use this extension, I recommend that the parent forum doesn't have a forum image and all of the child forums do. As you can see from the the first image above, that is the scenario that looks best on screen.

Thanks :)
I can understand why it's not in core though, because putting so many images in there makes it look a little cluttered I think. Maybe with a new theme it could be do-able though.

Speaking of which, it's a real pain trying to place the subforums in something resembling a list. One of the issues I had was:

If the parent forum has an image, and the forum description is not that long - but it has multiple subforms with images - IMO the alignment doesn't look good. If anyone with good CSS skills knows how I can force the subforum image directly below the parent forum image, please let me know! :) https://github.com/battye/show-subforum ... images.css

I would change the display of the .sfi_subforum class from block to inline-block. The misalignment is not because of the forum description but because of the size of the parent forum image

EDIT: I more thing i noticed in order to see the image I need to use a path like this

Code: Select all

.//images/icons/misc/fire.gif
while the standard path is

Code: Select all

/images/icons/misc/fire.gif
you would need to fix that because it's gonna confuse people why one is working the other don't.

Do you mean the second path works for regular forum images, but not for subforum images?

Yes
I'll take another look at the way phpBB handles forum image paths by default and change mine to match :)

http://malochov.cz you can see
"Kuchyňská úprava čehokoli" looks okay, except the CSS problem mentioned above.
"Inzerce" I'm not really sure how we would handle as none of them have subforum images?

Yes
I've prepended the root path now - zip at https://github.com/battye/show-subforum ... v100b2.zip
Does that fix it for you?

I've released an update with a CSS fix which should make the images look better on your site now :)
Would you please try it and let me know?

The new download link is at: https://github.com/battye/show-subforum ... v100b3.zip

Hello Battye :)

You are just so amazing! Sadly it does't seem to work with my theme in specific.
When i enable the extension the Subforum disappears. https://bnn.ooo

Maybe I should write the coder of the design ?

Thank you so much for your time battye and your skills!

I think that will just be because you aren’t using prosilver. If you show the prosilver directory in this extension to your designer and ask him to make any adjustments for your style (saved in a directory named for your style) I think it’ll work for you then :)
