need some help

Post by sotyrockz04 » Thu Jun 12, 2008 11:27 pm

hi yeah i was wondering if there was a way to edit the bar at the top...the one that says user control panel search view active topics...all that stuff

i want to possible either add another one or edit what one of them says

for ex.

i would turn Search into chat or something

i would much rather just edit one of them but i cannot find where the acctual words are located whether it would be in the styles template folder or what...please help

Same file as it's always been in phpBB. Look for overall_header.tpl in the template/ folder of the style.

You can easily add a link if you follow the styling used for one of the default links. Of course, I utilize the a little of the parsers to generate any links and language thing I want to add. Search for {L_SEARCH} and I'm sure the rest is easy.

ok what it boils down to is i i wanna turn one of the links in the bar into a link to a chat room hosted on the board

for ex. i want the faq thing to link me to the chat so i would turn the words faq into Chat and then link it to the Chat.php instead of faq.php

Did you flush out the cache? Template edits need a cache flush in order to see them. (browser and FTP probably)

ACP -> Styles (tab) -> Templates -> Refresh the style.

To get around having to do that all the time, under the General Tab, go to Load Settings and turn on "Recompile Stale Templates" and then you can just refresh the page whenever you make changes.

That's probably why your not seeing immediate changes. But, I highly suggest you add the link rather than replacing FAQ or Search with something. Adding it is easy as I mentioned.

open overall_header.html
find this:

Code: Select all

<li class="icon-faq"><a href="{U_FAQ}" title="{L_FAQ_EXPLAIN}">{L_FAQ}</a></li>
replace with this:

Code: Select all

<li class="icon-faq"><a href="{U_FAQ}" title="{L_FAQ_EXPLAIN}">{L_FAQ}</a></li>
<li class="icon-faq"><a href="/chat.php" title="chat">Chat</a></li>
you will need to edit the link to chat.php to reflect wherever your chat is .

be sure to refresh the cache in the first page of the admin panel after each edit so
you can see the changes.
