Email Sending Error

Post by Mn3MoN1c »

Hi. Currently my forums are undergoing an error with emails(confirmation, replies to threads, and pm's). I checked the log and saw this error:

E-mail error
» EMAIL/SMTP
/phpBB3/cron.php

Could not connect to smtp host : 111 : Connection refused

<b>[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice</b>: in file <b>/includes/functions_messenger.php</b> on line <b>835</b>: <b>fsockopen(): unable to connect to smtp.gmail.com:465</b><br />

Now, I read on different places that a possible solution would be to disable smtp but I can't seem to find it in the ACP. Can anyone help?

You can disable SMTP via the Email Settings page of the ACP. As for using GMail for SMTP, have you looked at this?

Hm, I don't seem to have that option?

Is there any reason it wouldn't show up?

You don't have the section because you are not a founder. You will need to get founder permissions from an existing founder before you can alter email settings.

I believe the "Authentication method" needs to be left as "Plain".
