Cannot send headers.

Post by AustinYQM » Tue Jul 22, 2008 9:56 am

I am trying to install the 3.0->3.1 thing will not load. It gives me a cannot send headers thing. When I remove the install directory I get this at the top of my page.

[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 3416: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /language/en/common.php:1)
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 3418: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /language/en/common.php:1)
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 3419: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /language/en/common.php:1)
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 3420: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /language/en/common.php:1)

I did recently install a mod that had me add...
'ANNOUNCEMENT_TITLE_GUESTS' => 'Guest Announcements local',
'ANNOUNCEMENT_TITLE' => 'Site Announcements local',
to language/en/common.php.

I cant install the update until I get this worked out. I was gonna post it in the mod forum but this is now the third mod it has done it on so I figured i'd point it out here. Anyone have any clue?

Check if there is a space or white line for php?> in the file: language/en/common.php
So yes, delete it. ;)
Excuse me for my bad english. I hope you understand my posts. ;)

There was a blankline before it but no space, I have since deleted the blank line, no luck, then deleted everything that was whitespace, no luck.

Code: Select all

	// Translators should change this if a the usual date format is different
	'default_dateformat'	=> 'D M d, Y g:i a', // Mon Jan 01, 2007 1:37 pm

));?>
anything else I can try?

Make sure it was saved as UTF-8 without BOM.

http://www.yqmonline.com/common.php

See if you can right click->saveas that if you are willing to fix it for me.

I know its saved as UTF-8 but I haven't the slightest clue what "without BOM" means.

edit, oh look I found the upload button :-/

I zipped it so it would allow me to upload it. I can use .rar if you aren't on windows because that thought didn't even cross my mind till just now.

.php files cannot be downloaded because the server will always execute them first. Rename the file to common.txt or - as you suggested - zip it and upload the archive.

EDIT: Man... you already did that. Im going to bed, everything is blurry... :lol:

If you used Notepad to save it, it will save it as UTF-8 With BOM. You will need a different editor to save it without a BOM, like Notepad++. (Format --> Encode in UTF-8 without BOM)
