Why are you editing anything? As JimA said, you can do this with the permissions in the ACP.

You can also try this

Open
viewtopic.php
Find

Code: Select all

    $postrow = array(
Before add

Code: Select all

//Begin: guests cannot read mesage
if ($user->data['user_id'] == ANONYMOUS)
{
        $message = "Guests can see topics, but they cannot read messages!";
}
//End: guests cannot read mesage

so we don't need to add this?

That is simply find and add code change..

Open
phpbb3/viewtopic.php
..

What you ask ask to route guests to login screen, needs a different mod. You can ask at mod requests forum.
I abandoned all of my mods.

ok i got it to work for me but is there a way where it will display the user name and pass word fiels where the user can log in or lick on the register link from that page?

like instead of saying "Guests can see topics, but they cannot read messages!" it will give a place to log in or sign up?

There's a bit of code in the Knowledge base, article 'Add a New Custom Page to phpBB' which brings up the login request but someone else would have to tell you where to put it to do what you want.

Oooh actually that would be better for my board as well.

If you get any further details on how to do this, please let me know.
