Identity Information Icon

Post by moselekm »

I have been trying to find out how to make a III, which is the icon shown to the right of the address bar. Like PHPBB's icon is the Two bubble people, Goggle is the Google G.
Anyone know where to edit this?

That's called a favicon.

You can make on on this site
http://www.html-kit.com/favicon/

With phpBB3, apparently you can just put the icon into your site root (ie the public_html or www folder) and it'll work. I haven't tried it that way though, I tend to add a line of code to the overall_header.html file. That code is included in the resulting favicon zip you download from that site.

It's still not working. I have the ico loaded to my root folder. I then followed the instructions READ ME which say to place the code "<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" >" into the <head></head> of the code. So I open:
public_html/styles/prosilver/template/overall_head.html
and I have popped the code right after the <head> and then when that failed, I placed it before </head>.

Any suggestions?

Try putting it just below the meta code.
Don't forget to refresh the cache after you do it.

admin panel>styles>template>refresh

Try putting it in the forum as well.

Also, what browser is it. IE is notoriously bad with favicons.

Got a link so we can see?

It is actually pretty simple.

Just add the following code under the <title> line in the overall_header.html(the <title> line is usually just below the meta codes):
<link href='url_of_image' rel='shortcut icon'/>

It definitely works with png and gif files since im using them, haven't actually tried jpg yet but i'm pretty sure it should work too.
Hope this helps!!
