Forum restore database user mismatch

Post by ab9db »

The following is the basic SRT
Your board's URL: http://www.arsenal-land.co.uk/forum
Version of phpBB3: 3.0.2
Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)? Upgrade via 2.0.X via RC3
Did you use an automated wizard provided by your host to install phpBB? Yes
MODs you have installed: None
When the problem started: Following host server crash, uploaded database copy
Your level of expertise (be honest): Very basic

Additionally, you may wish to provide the following (where applicable)
Template(s) used: Default
Language(s) used: English
Version of PHP used: ?
Database and version used: ?

Error reported by forum software:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]
Access denied for user 'arseland'@'localhost' (using password: YES) [1045]
An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.
Hosts advised me that user indicated in forum scripts doesn't match that in cpanel.

How do I fix this?

The error means that the information in your config.php file, probably either the dbusername or the dbpasswd is incorrect. Whether this is because the host changed one or the other or both after the crash, I don't know. If you can view the database using phpMyAdmin, the user and pwd you use to get into phpMyAdmin should be the same as what needs to be in config.php.

That said, we do not support boards installed via an automated wizard, as the files used are different than the ones from here. If you would like to install phpbb3 on your own with the files from here, we can help you do that and then you will be eligible for support.

I don't know about wizards,

I updated a phpBB2 forum using your conversion downloads, so I should be using a freshly installed phpBB3 forum that used converted data.

I notice in CPanel that I have a database user account called ****_phpBB3 with access to the database in question.

My config file shows dbuser and dbpassword as my normal logins for cpanel/ftp etc but the username isn't _phpBB3, so I assume I need to create an account with the same name as shown in config.php

Only problem is that my username is 8 characters, my Cpanel only allows usernames with 7 characters max. Do I change my details in config.php and upload it again?

I noted that the password in the config file has a capital letter, would it be case sensitive?

Hello guys!

I have the same problem; but i'm lucky just partially.. I know he database name , the database username, but I can't remember the passsword...
I'm using cpanel interface for create/admin this database....
Any solutions how to set another password in config.php?... it has been replaced with a different file, who erased the original username, and password...

Thank you!
