No recipient defined

Post by Function »

When I tried to send a PM message, it says no recipient defined despite the fact that I added their names and checked the spelling. Before this incident, I was able to send private messages to other people with no problem at all. Also, I tried to send a mass e-mail, however, none of the members are receiving it.

Also, when I try to get a smiley or avatar to display on the server, it would not work.

I attempted to register a test account, but the CAPTCHA isn't displaying. Do the PM and avatar issues also occur if you switch back to prosilver? It's possible that the style may be outdated or otherwise broken.

You should also look into figuring out why the CAPTCHA isn't working, or nobody will be able to register. This can be a server issue.

Thank you very much for helping.

The CAPTCHA seems to work and that members are able to register. I switched back to prosilver and it also did not display the smilies or the avatar. In addition, I am still not able to send messages to members or mass e-mail.

I'm still not seeing the CAPTCHA so I can't register a test account. I'm not sure what's going on with that. You say it works for you?

If you have made no modifications to the code, then you should try the following:

1) Download a fresh copy of the phpBB 3.0.2 full package
2) Decompress it into a folder on your local system
3) From the folder, delete the config.php file and the install folder
4) Create a backup of the phpBB folder on your server (do not skip this step)
5) Upload the contents of the folder you made in step 2 to the server, overwriting the old copies of the files

Switch to prosilver and test. Post back here and report results.

I'm having the exact same problem. I have version 3.2 and am using the original default board with no mods.

The forum is at http://www.ryuteforums.com which is actually at http://www.darkaffliction.com/tuite/

Driving me nuts at the moment. Any time any of my users attempt to send a PM they get it and I get it even on the ADMIN account.

Your board's URL: http://www.ryuteforums.com
Version of phpBB3: 3.0.2
Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)? Fresh
Did you use an automated wizard provided by your host to install phpBB? No
MODs you have installed: None
When the problem started: Apparently from Birth
Your level of expertise (be honest): Mediocre. Been using PHPBB for many years but of course just started this PHPBB3 forum, all my older ones are PHPBB2 versions.

Help! I have the same problem:

Your board's URL: http://forum.metrodoctors.com
Version of phpBB3: ?
Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)? fresh install
Did you use an automated wizard provided by your host to install phpBB? I'm not sure - I wasn't the installer.
MODs you have installed: None
When the problem started: Two days ago
Your level of expertise (be honest): noob

No one, not even me as admin, can send PMs due to the "no receipent defined" error message. I've tried both typing in the username in the "to" field as well as using the member lookup to select the username.

After typing in the name, did you click ADD?

I an having the very same issue on my forum. I'm not sure what's wrong as I was able to send out test messages a few days ago.

Your board's URL: http://www.vanilla-chai.nu/dsg
Version of phpBB3: 3.0.4
Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)?: The original board was installed, fresh, as v3.0.3; a couple days ago however, I ran the automatic update (due to another problem I was having) to v3.0.4. It's currently still at 3.0.4
If update, what package(s) did you use?: ----
Did you use an automated wizard provided by your host to install phpBB?: No
MODs you have installed: None
When the problem started: This is the first time I've encountered the problem.
Your level of expertise (be honest): With HTML code- expert. With PHP/databasing... beginner.

Additionally, you may wish to provide the following (where applicable)
Template(s) used: Darkness
Language(s) used: English
Version of PHP used: 5.2.6
Database and version used: I'm assuming this is the MySQL database version? If so, it's 5.0.51a

If at all possible, I'd like to fix this without having to completely re-install the boards. I already have accounts set up, and the design is just how I want it. If I can at all avoice having to re-do 3 weeks worth of work.. I'd much appreciate it- however, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: Just thought I'd mention that it doesn't matter how I add users- whether I click on a direct PM link or if I add them with the member search.. even just typing in their name and hitting 'Add [To]'- none of these works.
