Converting to 3.0

Post by lifedeuce »

My forums are heavily modded, http://www.dawgbones.com/phBB/index.php and I realize support for the 2.0 version is ending. My question is can I convert and keep all the MODS I have installed or will I have to re-load all of them? Will I loose all the attachments that are currently on the board? Will I be able to use hte same template I am currently using so the board look stays the same?

The only MODs converted are the attachment and birthday MODs. You will lose all the others and the 2x code for those MODs is not compatible with phpBB3.

Templates are also not converted.

because support for phpbb2 will cease as of jan. 1
that means that no more development will take place , no more bug fixes, no more security fixes and no more support here on the boards for it or any of the MODs or styles.

there will be other places to get support ( see my sig file ) but they will not be officially sanctioned by phpbb.com.

you have to decide for yourself.

To add to what Lumpy said, 3.0 provides a lot of features that you had to have mods for in 2.0 which is a huge plus in my opinion. Have you even tried 3.0?
The box said 'You need Windows XP or better' .... so I installed linux.

I have 3.0 installed on the server and look have been looking at it, but don't see the advantages if I have to redo all the work I have done so far in 2.0. Are all of the MODS like photo album, attachments, top 10 posters, quiz, fantasy sports and the like available in 3.0?

The server is timing out.

Timeouts, blank screens and '500 internal error' messages suggest that your server is not coping with the conversion. You can ask your hosts if they can give you some leeway on the settings for a couple of hours while you try to convert, you can look in the site logs to see if there are clues for the blank screens or you can do the conversion offline
