Rebuild Search Index after upgrading to 3.0.3

Post by MarcusFSC » Mon Nov 24, 2008 8:51 am

Hi,

I´ve upgraded my phpBB 3.0.2 forums to 3.0.3 and it works fine - thanx.
After the upgrade process I´ve deleted the search index and then I started the building process of search index (fulltext native). But the indexing takes a very very long time, I´ve started it at Saturday night and it is still going on.
The result screen shows f.e. thread 36700, next step 37800, next step 36700, next step 37800 and so on. After a long time the screen shows the same behavior at a other thread combination f.e. 46200 and 47300.

Any idea?

THX in advance.

Regards,
Marcus

Do you have a lot of posts on your forum I'm guessing?

Just let it run for a while.. although 24 hours seems excessive.

Hi
I have the same problem. The number of posts indexed are actually going down sometimes.

I only have 37000 posts so its not that large of a forum.

Hi,

mhhh lots of posts - nearly 45000. The index building process now has finished, it take nearly 2 days
But if I use the search function I´ll always get the error message
The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: loading.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.
I can type in whatever - I´ll always get this message...

Regards,
Marcus

this isn't a bug, at least not that i know of,

the issue is simple, you indexed your posts, which takes time which you noticed of course,
now, with all thoses posts, words that appear in a majority of the posts are considered common words, now, it DOES seems like like the percentage option in the ACP doesn't seem to be working. but if you search for a lesser used word then it should work

Hello,

Currently I have the same issue. I just deleted the search index and want to rebuild it, but it took very long time to move forward. I only got around 1000 topic in about 15 minuts, but it then back again to 100.. Does anyone has the same issue?
My site statistic is Total posts 226233 | Total topics 7480.
Thank you..

I kept the search index from 3.0.2, but would like to rebuild the tables after adding ignored words to the install. Problem is, the search "in progress" window sometimes times out, forcing me to start from the very beginning. The 2.0.x mod for rebuilding the index was smart enough to continue from where it left off, why not the official version?

to ALL,
This is NOT a bug, I have tested it and it works fine, you HAVE to pick your settings for the %, then DELETE and rebuild your index, if you have alot of posts then it might take a while.

but it works fine, you probably aren't reindexing it after changing it.

try using another browser, or try when the server is less stressed.

Unfortunately random flakiness of the host that users would barely notice invariably happen when the search rebuild takes hours and hours. When I have time, I plan to download the live database to a local server, run the rebuild, restore the live database search tables from the local copy, and then retouch the posts created during this "Chinese Firedrill." Of course my preferred solution is that the search rebuild remember where it left off should it be interrupted.
