Needing Help Badly

Post by ElvisAaron »

Hi!I just recently had a phpbb forum installed. The only thing I have done to it (that I know of) is changed the background color. But for some reason it is out of whack. It doesn't look nothing like how it looked. I'm not sure if it's even possible to get it back to how it originally was. I'm hoping someone on here can take a look at it and please let me know what I did wrong and if it's possible to fix it. Here's a link to the forum http://elvicities.com/~elvisfootage/forum/ I hope this is the right place to post this.....

When you changed the background colour how did you do it?

What are you using to edit your php files?

You have obviously damaged your board during the edit process.

The easiest solution, in my opinion, being as it is a brand new board, is to upload a fresh copy of phpBB except config.php and you should be fine.

Use a good text editor such as notepad++ available for free download Notepad++ when editing any of your forum files.

In future always remember to make backup copies of any files you want to edit before editing. That way you can always restore them if anything goes wrong ;)

Hi. When I changed the background color all I did was go into styles, then themes, clicked on edit in prosilver, changed the background color in body, in the theme editor and then saved it. Then I used front page to edit the css files (colors and common). Thanks for the reply

Never use 'FrontPage' with anything that has to do with phpBB :(

Thanks for the tips. Just one question though. In order to change the background colors, etc. will I have to edit both the common and color files, as well as edit the theme?

No, colours.css should be enough.

After changing the background color and cacheing the forum my new background color still isn't appearing. I changed it about 8 hours ago so I'm not sure what's going on. Is there something else I should be doing?

By "cacheing the forum" do you mean purging the cache in the ACP? Can you provide a link to the board?

Ok I see the board, you are using prosilver and this is the style you edited? Can you post the specific CSS class you changed here inside

Code: Select all

 tags?

Ok, first thing I want you to do is go to your ACP -> General -> Server Config -> Load settings (near the bottom) and set "Recompile stale style components:" to Yes. Submit. Then go back to your index page and refresh your browser. From this point on your style edits should display with just a browser refresh for you.

That worked. Thank you so much. So now when I change something like the colors, etc. it should show up as soon as I refresh my browser?
