Hello

I created a backup on the old forum and uploaded it to the store folder on the new forum then done the restore backup,

It said it worked but none of my posts are there.

You have to edit config.php to point to the new database.

I don't know what this is telling me to do.

The old forums was on a free host and i don't have ftp access.

I got them to give me the database in sql format so can I not just import the database into the new host? then install the forums unsing that databases name and user info?

I was thinking I could install the forums on the new host and create a new database with the same info for the install. Then go in phpmyadmin and delete everything out of that database and import the database from the old host.

Will that work?
3) Exporting Forums.
3.a.
### Now you have the option to use FTP, or use Cpanel File Manager###

FTP:
- Open Your FTP Client
- Navigate to forum directory.
- Create New folder on your desktop, name it "Forums"
- In your FTP client, Highlight ALL the files, drag and drop them into the "Forum" folder on your desktop.
- This is a lengthy process.
- Proceed to Step 4.

Filemanager:
- Open Cpanel, enter your admin login details.
- Navigate to "File Manager".
- Click on that, a pop up should display.
- Select these options:
Document Root
Display dot files
- Click OK
- Navigate to forum directory.
- Select all files.
- Click Compress.
- Once compressed locate the .zip
- Double click the ZIP icon.
- Download will start, download to your desktop.
- Proceed to Step 4.

However, once you have moved the board, you will need to tell the config.php file the information it needs to connect to the new database. Also, if the domain name is different, or the board's root folder is different, you will need to make some other changes to the database. See these two articles.

The forum will still be located on the main dir but its moving from a www.domain.com to a www.mysite.domain.com

From your link i'm doing everything except for step 3 and I get database errors when I try and go to the forum.

If i can't do this step what else do I need to do to make it work?

I have the phpbb full back and the database sql export. Do I need to go ahead and install the new forums with a random database? I'm just not sure what to do because step 3 sounds like its tring to get me to download the old forums files but I don't have access to do that. I'm going to do a fresh install on the new host.

What should I do?

Thanks for the help

I just wish the built in forum back and restore feature worked. This would be so much easier if it did.
