Not able to open ./cache/data_global.php in...

Post by SpiritSharD »

Your board's URL: http://seekingredemption.co.uk
Version of phpBB3: 3.0.4
Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)? Fresh Install
If update, what package(s) did you use? N/A
Did you use an automated wizard provided by your host to install phpBB? No
MODs you have installed: Yes, under 10 modifications, but I don't believe they are related to the problem
When the problem started: Friday 1/5/09, 6:00pm
Your level of expertise (be honest): Medioke

Was browsing my forum when suddenly I encountered the following error;
Fatal error: Not able to open ./cache/data_global.php in /home2/seekingr/public_html/forum/includes/acm/acm_file.php on line 112
I have made no new changes to files etc for some time, so this error is quite random.

Read another post on these forums which said that the cache should be purged, so I did it manually. Although the error was removed, i've got it again.

What's the problem, and how do I get rid of it?

  • CHMOD cache/ to 777, even try changing it to 755 and then back to 777
  • Upload a fresh includes/constants.php
  • Delete the file in the error

@First Bulletpoint

Where can I find "CGMOD cache/" ?

@Second & Third Bulletpoint

This may affect some of the modifications i've installed, possibly causing more errors. I can't remember if I have ever edited includes/constants.php for a MOD. However, i'm not entirely sure. =/

CHMOD is a way to set file permissions, see this article: Knowledge Base - CHMOD Permissions

As for the constants.php file, just check if you have these lines in it:

Code: Select all

// phpbb_chmod() permissions
@define('CHMOD_ALL', 7);
@define('CHMOD_READ', 4);
@define('CHMOD_WRITE', 2);
@define('CHMOD_EXECUTE', 1);

Error seems to have just disappeared without me having to do anything. =/

Cache has permissions yet to 777.

And those lines were found in the file. :)

In case the error appears in the feature, try to delete the file first and see if the board picks up. If not, post here :)

Hey, it's happening again. :(

What file am I supposed to remove, "includes/constants.php" or "acm/acm_file.php"?

None of the those two :).

Can you please post your constants.php here?

Remove the file cache/data_global.php again, it should work correctly.

Mornin'

I keep getting this error, I just got it this morning.

I delete everything in the cache folder exl ".htaccess" and "index.htm", and that gets the forum working again. But later on i'll get the same error again, and I don't want to have to keep deleting everything in the cache folder to get it working. :(

This error is mostly due to the use of Automatic Update Package,I see you Only have 10 MODs which can be done,easily,i have 72 MODS.
Well just to fix this problem do this
  • Upload all new files from a download of the full version, except for config.php, the /images and /files folders.
  • Go to yoursite.com/forumfolder/install/database_update.php
  • Let that run and then delete the install folder.
  • You now have a new up to date board containing all your users and posts but without any MODs that you might have had installed.
After doing as above delete all files in /cache folder except .htaccess and index.html
Note:
To re-install the Mods you will only need to apply the CODE changes the database changes will not be required,as they are already present in the DB. :)
