Reinstalling phpBB3

Post by Crocodile442 » Sat May 16, 2009 3:18 pm

I have a problem with phpBB3 and have hammered at it for long enough. So, I want to reinstall phpBB3 and then add the mods I need one by one, very carefully, trying to fix whatever I broke. If I go ahead and install phpBB3 again will it damage the database or will I have to dump the database, reinstall phpBB3 and then upload the backup of my database? Anyone?

* Upload all new files from a download of the full version, except for config.php, the /images and /files folders.
* Go to yoursite.com/forumfolder/install/database_update.php
* Let that run and then delete the install folder.
* You now have a new up to date board containing all your users and posts but without any MODs that you might have had installed.

Wow, thanks. This is an extremely important post. I bet lots of people have needed to reinstall their websites. I've done it four times. This would have saved me hundreds of clients and many, many hours.

I've already reinstalled a fresh phpbb 3.0.5. Can I just swap my existing /images, /files and config.php for my backed up ones? Or do I need to uninstall again then do this before I reinstall?

You can just copy them over.

Wow, it's all working. Thanks so much. Now I'm on the ACP>General>Cookie settings page. Do I need to change this? I've moved my website to a different webspace and the website's name has changed. :?:

Just change it all accordingly.
Don't worry if you mess it up as you can use the support toolkit (linked in my sig below) to fix them again.

Not sure where you're reading that.

Click downloads at the top of the page
Click the green box.

Then it says

phpBB3 "Olympus" 3.0.5

Welcome to our public stable release of phpBB3! Here you are able to download the full phpBB3 package for installation.

I did this, now there is nothing on my board. No categories, no threads, nothing!

EDIT: Nevermind, I forgot to delete the install folder. It's working now.

Yeh this helped me out a lot. Thank you very much for making clear, concise instructions.

Also, thanks to phpbb for making it this easy to refresh an install! :D

Hey bud, just did that on my forum, all went successfully ... except, logged back into ACP, went to AutoMod.. and all the mod's are still installed, and i'm still getting messed up errors when i click on .MOD, thought this deleted all the MODs? How come it didn't work on mine??

Thanks

That's reading info from the database, not the files.

admin panel
system
module management
admin control panel
You should be able to delete it there.

Ok thanks man just deleted them all and their children from there, and they don't show up at all.
So they are for sure all deleted now? All MODs? And automod?
Is it safe to install automod again now, and then the hide spider and bot mod, and 2 others? but excluding the 'download' mod which stuffed my board up
