hidden web links

Post by djp2 » Mon Jun 08, 2009 3:36 am

Anyone else seeing new members posting hidden text web links in messages ? You can't see them unless you hover over some white space. Editing a message or hitting the ? to query a post (using moderator privs that is) does show the link.

Here is an example

That's pretty good. (bigkiss) (vangry)

[url=http://XXXXfiscaliteassurancevieXXX.org/][color=#E1EBF2][u]fiscalite assurance vie[/u][/color][/url]

(I disabled BBCode and put XXXs to stop it spamming here too)

I put some screen dumps here to help show what we are seeing;

I guess we could sandbox new users and stop them posting links for X posts, but that seems too onerous to me and will make the experience annoying for new members.

That looks like spambots. See the sticky in this forum on how to prevent spambots.

hi Paul,

thanks for the reply.

I have implemented the custom fields on the signup page and that dropped off my automated spambot registration to nil - a great hack.

this hidden web link spam is new and definitely from a `clever' human spammer.

Perhaps others aren't seeing it yet, but I would think that they will soon though.
