UpDate. HOW?

Post by Joe_Joe »

Let me first thank everyone for their help.

Here is my problem. I downloaded the code changes to update from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 (my board is heavily moded) After making all the changes to the files, uploading them to the server via FTP. Clicking the cashe button, I get lines of errors but only in the ACP and everything seems to work. Everything but the email, but that never worked before I made the changes.

Have I missed a step somewhere. Is there a way to tell the system it has been updated? I see no change to the version number and in Maintainence it still tells me to update to 3.0.5

Thank you for any help you can give.

It's been a while. BTW, the support template has no value at all, there's no question there that applies.

When I try to upgrade my board from, phpBB 3.x.x to 3.x.x-pl1 or anyother upgrade such as 3.0.5 to 3.0.6 or .7 this is what I get.

This is a highly modded board. What else do you need to know.

-- Note. I will not post the URL, this is an adult board, not porn just adult and very private to it's members.

Anyone have an idea?

Thank you.

Try uninstalling the US English pack and set British English as the only language and try again.

What I did was update to a fresh copy of phpBB and then used AutoMOD to install my MODs again. Every MOD installed just fine and I did not lose any information from the DB, but I had a DB backup just in case I lost some of that info during the process.

That's an excellent idea and I thank you for it.

Now don't get this wrong please. HOW? Steps. Instructions, you must know how, I don't. 75% of the people asking questions on this board don't. Please share the knowledge.

I didn't install it. If a MOD did then I have no idea. Below are screen shots of my Language folders.

Thank you

Just one more question and I'll leave this alone. I've read the changelog and don't see anything that would cause the board to crash, besides I have a full copy stored. If it does, I'll just put it back.

Question.
Will the software continue to function without the upgrades.

I guess there's 2 questions.

In the change log it references "Atom" since I can't find it on my board is this an add on. What is Atom?

I'll stop back a little later to read any answer if there is one but for now.

Thank you all for your help.

The software will function without the upgrades, but you may be more vulnerable to security exploits if you don't keep up.

Atom is a competitor to RSS.

When I upgrade a modded board, I do a database upgrade from the changed files, upload the files from a full install, drop the MODs from the database, and reinstall all the MODs via AutoMod. That way I keep my database. I think that's less of a hassle than laboriously combing through the phpBB changes and adding them one by one.

Edit: Seems like you can go straight to upload files from a full install and then update the DB then reinstall the MODs. :)

I know nothing about either so it doesn't really matter. After reading about these their not something I would ever use.

I tried this once, once was enough. I closed the board and never reopened it again because it didn't work, or I didn't know enough to complete it. Sounds good but I think leaving it run as is would be a better solution.

Thank you
