Database size

Post by TrZ »

I run a medium sized board using 3.0.4
My forum stats are:

Now can anybody tell me why my database is sooooo large???
I have a few lingering mods that aren't in use and will be uninstalled and removed from the database when 3.0.6 comes out.
But I know that those few extra database edits aren't causing the extra size.

I help manage a few other phpbb3 forums which have a larger userbase than mine, and yet their database is significantly smaller than mine.

Any thoughts on why this is like this?

Regards,

Look at your database tables in phpMyAdmin and tell us what are the largest tables from the list.

The database size and the size of the files on the server are two completely different things. If you try to comment on a topic, please try to explain yourself a bit better, I really don't know what you wanted to say.

That is quite large for the posts table. I just looked at one board I have and it has 196,657 posts occupying 175.4 MiB. Are your posts unusually long?

What is your common word threshold?

Most posts vary, but topics are from 50-300 words.

what?

when you create a new topic it is just a post and is no different from any other post as far as the number or possible or probable words in it.

I know.

maybe I should've said that topics are the longest and are around 50-300 words, while other posts are like 5-20 words

You are not making any sense. "topics" has nothing to do with the size of the posts table.
