Why would your host restrict auto updates and how?

Code: Select all

The operation could not be completed because the fsockopen function has been disabled or the server being queried could not be found.
thts the error on the sytem tab.

Contacted my hosts, they said it is globally disabled and they can not enable it

You have a choice, make all the edits manually or do a file replacement and it will probably me easier to reinstall your MODs after a file replacement.
*NOTE: Before proceeding backup all files and the database.*
  • Upload all new files from a download of the full version, except for config.php, the /images and /files folders.
  • Go to yoursite.com/forumfolder/install/database_update.php
  • Let that run and then delete the install folder.
  • You now have a new up to date board containing all your users and posts but without any MODs that you might have had installed.
Another option would be to change hosts.
