What means blocking? Just look here: http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/a ... 03#details
My arguments you can found at the FAQs for ABM and ADAP. I'm thinking about using phpBB for association, club and company websites. And I'm a IT network professional. Perhaps these are the reasons why I'm looking to some things in a different way.
Just look here: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... #p11251165
- Not any word about blocking with DNSBLs. It's a phpBB3 default feature! Only some words about using other MODs.
IMO this topic here is not the right place for technical discussions. But here a Arsia (phpBB3.2 ! ) feature request discussion: http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic ... 05&t=33531
. That's the way how the phpBB community is discussing with me. It's like David against Goliath. And I have been implyed to be a spamming MOD advertiser again. I just wanted to talk about improving a phpBB3 default feature and gave an example. That's all! If you are interested I can give you more examples like these via PM.
I have had some PMs with devs last about 18 months. But by now I haven't good any feedback about a test from them. Just two quick arguments from them:
1. possible performance issues. (I and others haven't noticed them by now! )
2. DNSBLs are third party. (Visual confirmation CAPTCHAs and a lot of other components phpBB is using are third party, too. Or not? )
Please don't forget: dnsbl_check is a phpBB3 default feature!
In this discussion here I just wanted to remind that there are alternatives to prevent spammers. That's all.
