Re: Preventing Spam in phpBB 3.0.6 and Above [*Read First Po

Thanks Martin

I am keeping a careful watch on the board to see how effective the SFS check is - so far, so good!

As I am relatively new to phpBB and completely new to php I need to keep things simple at present.

My major concern with the php code I have implemented in ucp_register.php is whether it is robust enough; for example if the StopForumSpam site is down, what will happen to the registration?

Any thoughts gratefully accepted!!!

Hello pennycsf,
the list down problem is one important argument to use several blackists.

BTW: Advanced Block is adding a Block log, too. So you can see what the blocking features are doing.

field type: single text field
It appears that you may only be able to use Dropdrown box or Numbers for anti-spam custom profile fields. Dropdrown box allows specifying a value which is equivalent to no entry and Numbers allows specifying a default value larger than the maximum. (I use Dropdrown box myself.)

To use a Single text field, you'd probably need a MOD to cause that to fail.

Otherwise you may need to use the Q&A CAPTCHA.

Thanks for info. makes good sense. I have removed the single text field and for now have changed my CAPTCHA to Q&A.... I will add the dropdownbox as a next addition.

Your advice much appreciated. thankyou

Because spammers and hackers use shortened URLs to obfuscate their sites. This isn't Twitter.

Hello J_M,
I think there is no answer for this question. But most human spammers are well known by their IP address listed on blacklists.
