Hello

I've set a category and added a description in the filed that is titled:
Description:
Any HTML markup entered here will be displayed as is.
All general stuffs go here.

But nothing displayed in the board index

So please how to display the description of the category under the category title in the board index?

This will not show for a category and the category must contain at least one forum to be visible.

It's a little misleading to not disable or hide the description field for cats, if that field is useless. I mean the whole "General forum settings" block hides when you select cat from the dropdown for forum type, why not hide the other unused fields, or at least change the language beside the description field to say it doesn't work for categories. (maybe for 3.0.7? :P )

I do need to add a little descriptive words to the category. If this filed is not needed for the category then why it does exist!?

Yes I do understand that category should include at least one forum, again if this filed is not useful for the category then why it does exist!?

I guess they did not think anyone would get upset about it.

just don't use it.

there is no place for a description to go for a category unless you are going to edit the html files to create a space for it.

That's actually a good idea, and wouldn't be difficult at all...

5 minutes to write the MOD... 6 months to get it approved? Ok, i'm gone...

I am not upset at all, who said so and if I seemed so, then I am sorry as I did not tend to annoy any of the phpBB team. ;)
Also The reason I am talking about this is that when you create the forum and choose to set it as a category you will find some filed removed while it will be exist if you set it to a forum.
Just my opinion :)

I do not like to edit some core files in the phpBB files and always like to use the default ones for everything as it is the easy way to guarantee smooth update later on.

That is for more testing I guess and guarantee it is working under different environment and no conflicts around. But yes it will be a very long time to be waited till got approved.

I was making a (weak) joke about how hard the phpBB staff are on mod authors. I mean, denying mods repeatedly over purely aesthetic indentation of php code, etc. Ignore it.

As for how to do this, it'd be very very easy to get it working, just a couple minor edits, but if you're one of those that's afraid to modify core files then it wouldn't be for you. You'd have to edit (at the least) forumlist_body.html to add a row for the description, and you might have to edit a couple php files as well. I could look into this when I have time... but that won't be for several days, I'm slammed with work right now.

About what I was thinking. Nice find. :)

It wasn't a find. It is a common question and I've done several custom style edits to display both the category description and image for users privately. FYI it is also not a MOD, a simple style edit is all that is required for both.

I did not said that I've caught what others did not.

But again just thinkig bout it, why it does exist if you eed to do more style editing!?

I used to fid everything acurate in phpBB, so I will or may have some troubles for the styles I will use.

But thanks for supprt and your effort to solve but I was looking forward for a default ay o find or let it work by default within phpBB.

Because for whatever reason they didn't include it in the style. That's why styles are flexible, you can choose to include something that someone else may not need. Just look at the new Feeds feature in 3.0.6, they enabled feeds but chose not to display a feed icon in the default style, the rationale being you can edit the style to display them if you want. :)
