Hi Folks

Im trying to work out how to edit the very basic registration activation email. It looks like this:
Subject: Welcome to "{SITENAME}"

{WELCOME_MSG}

Please keep this e-mail for your records. Your account information is as follows:

----------------------------
Username: {USERNAME}

Board URL: {U_BOARD}
----------------------------

Your password has been securely stored in our database and cannot be retrieved. In the event that it is forgotten, you will be able to reset it using the email address associated with your account.

Thank you for registering.

{EMAIL_SIG}
How do I modify the {welcome message} etc? where are those fields in the ACP or where do they draw that text from? Should I just write a new message and save as a .txt replacement file?

Im not experienced in mods/ dev but tryingto learn as i go!

Thanks

Simon

It all depends what you want to do really but, as you suggest, it may be easier just editing the file: language/en/email/user_welcome_inactive.txt or whichever other message you want to change.

Make backups of any files you want to change before doing any editing.

Thanks for that but do i assume that anything in { } is autofilled, if so where from? If I write my own message, do I keep the
Username: {USERNAME}
entry - will that autofill with the recipients user id?

is
{WELCOME_MSG}
there for me to re-write or do those brackets mean it draws it from somewhere else that I fill in?

Sorry this email is a bit unclear, not sure how to ask what I want to know - I gues Im asking if someone can explain what how that file works.. :oops:

Many thanks

The curly brackets denotes a variable, for example to change it you could edit the welcome message. The {WELCOME_MSG} is in language/en/common.php:

Code: Select all

'WELCOME_SUBJECT'    => 'Welcome to %s forums',
Most of the other things such as the username and email address etc. are drawn from the information supplied by the user.
