Critical Case - Backup Completed but Attachments corrupted!

Post by gch5185 »

Hi.

Recently, I've moved my forum to another new hosting includes /files directory (3GB +). I have restored my website with Full Directory Backup. Unfortunately, all of my attachments are corrupted when my members are trying to download it from the download platform. Can anyone explain this?

It took me ages to upload all those files again and I can't lose them.

It is a possibility that the attachments have been corrupted during the file transfer.
  1. What are you using to FTP your files to your server?
  2. Are the attachments mainly images or what types of files are they?
  3. If you re-uploaded your images, you probably did it in text mode, rather than binary mode.

Most of them are rar files. I'm going to get heart attack very soon as the original files are not with me now.

Maybe your old host still has copies?

So if you download one of the rar files to your desktop they won't unzip or whatever? If they are corrupted it could have been from the original backup download or your upload, it's difficult to say. If you have no backups I think you may be in trouble.

There may be a glimmer of hope though, but only a glimmer. If you Google for 'repair rar files' you may find something that can fix your files.

Unfortunately, they have erased the files. Ouch!

For your information, the attachments in the /files directory are still in the old size which is 3gb plus (refer to the screenshot). I have downloaded RAR Repair tool but how am I going to fix it as the files inside the /files directory are not in .rar extension (refer to the screenshot). Can anyone help me? Please.

Before that, I wanna ask whether is there anything to do with the database?

As above?

I wasn't suggesting you try and repair the files on your server. I meant if you download one of the attachments will it repair it on your PC?
