Help with Recent Upgrade Issues Please

Post by willy4003 » Fri Feb 05, 2010 5:14 pm

Support Request Template
What version of phpBB are you using? phpBB 3.0.6
What is your board's URL? http://camtrapper.com/
Who do you host your board with? SiteGround
How did you install your board? I used a tool provided by my host
Is your board a fresh install or a conversion? Update from a previous version of phpBB3
Do you have any MODs installed? No
Is registration required to reproduce this issue? Yes
What version of phpBB3 did you update from? phpBB 3.0.5
What styles do you currently have installed? subsilver2 (default), prosilver, camtrap (special)
What language(s) is your board currently using? English
Which database type/version are you using? I Don't Know
What is your level of experience? New to PHP and phpBB
What username can be used to view this issue?
What password can be used to view this issue?
When did your problem begin? Tuesday when I upgraded from 3.05 - 3.06
Please describe your problem. After the upgrade, several issues were occurring and I was able to correct most of them. Unfortunately, I couldn't get them all. Can someone check my directory structure and clean up duplicate files that are not needed and also any html that appears incorrect.

A couple of major issues include the absence of "Quick Reply" appearing for users, even though is set to "yes" in the ACP under Board Features. It does not appear in any of the forums under "Manage Forums/cogwheel icon" in the ACP. One other issue is that I would like it, if when people put a link in a post and a member clicks on it, it to be opened in a new window/tab instead of the same window.

Lastly, under ACP>System, it still says "An Incomplete Update Has Been Detected." Lastly in my ACP, anything that relates to ACP has underscores in the title, for example: under ACP>General, I see see ACP_SEND_STATISTICS and when I click on it, I see:

{ SEND_STATISTICS }

{ EXPLAIN_SEND_STATISTICS }

{ DONT_SEND_STATISTICS }

{ EXPLAIN_SHOW_STATISTICS }
Generated by SRT Generator ($Rev: 3603 $)

Along with a {SEND STATISTICS} button to the right

You seem to used the Automatic Update.it is intended for Boards with MODS.Since,you have no Mods installed try reupdating your board,by following the simple steps below. :)
  • Upload all new files from a download of the full version, except for config.php, the /images and /files folders.
  • Go to yoursite.com/forumfolder/install/database_update.php
  • Let that run and then delete the install folder.
  • You now have a new up to date board containing all your users and posts but without any MODs that you might have had installed.

This might be a stupid question, but when I upload the new files what do I do with all of the old files that aren't replaced? Also, do you have any tips on the best way to go about doing this to avoid errors and extensive down-time?

You have used a tool provided by your provider. In general it can be stated that's asking for problems.

There should not be old files that will not be replaced.

Furthermore, you state you have the language English. Please clarify whether you have British English or US English.
The standard package (both complete and update) only contains British English. If you are using US English you will have to update that language too. The easiest is to copy the British English files over the US English files, or since you have no mods, download a fresh US English package from this site.

don't worry about any files that do not get replaced. the ones that matter will be.

there will be no downtime or errors if you just follow the above instructions EXACTLY.

luck,
robert

Thank you all. Just the re-install and it went very well. I do have quick reply now and it is enabled and working properly. Just curious why certain things have odd-ball brackets around them and how to get rid of them if they're not supposed to be there. Here are some examples:

1.) Top of Index page:
View unanswered posts | View active topics { SEARCH_UNREAD } | View new posts | View your posts

2.) Bottom of a topic:
{ QUICKREPLY }

3.) And in the ACP:
{ PURGE_SESSIONS }
{ PURGE_SESSIONS_EXPLAIN }

See what folders you have below <forumroot>/languages.
Overthere you should copy the contents of the folder en to the folder en_us.
