Prevent user from editing their posts

Post by MPG187 » Wed Feb 17, 2010 10:24 pm

Is there a way I can prevent a user from editing their own posts? I need an automatic way opposed to going through each of their posts and locking them myself...

Either set the registered users permissions to disallow editing or

general
post settings
Limit editing time:
Limits the time available to edit a new post. Setting the value to 0 disables this behaviour.

The setting in General applies to all users, how can I make it only apply to a certain user/group?

Simply create a usergroup and edited the advanced permissions. Just a guess I'm not sure as I've been away from PhpBB for awhile.

Like I said, permissions

Either edit that groups forum permissions for the forum you want

advanced
actions
Can edit own posts NEVER

Or make a group and put the users you want to restrict in to that group and do the same.

You can't but it'll only take a few minutes for the forums you want and you only have to do it once.

I was trying to do it and it was taking forever to do it. And what if I make a new section, would I have to do it then?

Well sadly sometimes that's part of being an admin of a board.

See I did tell you once that you should update to 3.0.6 but you weren't interested.
3.0.6 has an option called copy permissions.
This allows you to set it for one forum and with one click, copy it to all the other forums you want.
But hey, you knew best and you're happy on 3.0.4....

If you make a new forum you can use the copy permissions option on the page when you make it.

That seems cool, but I am still scared to update and don't have the time.

If I have mods I wanna install, should I install them before or after?

If you're going to update, install them after.

its always easiest to update a board with NO mods installed. However phpbb install apps have a nice feature to assist you in updating modded boards. It will require a decent amount of coding knowledge on your part to understand what the app is telling you. But it certainly can be done.
