Newbie Question

Post by gatepc » Tue Mar 30, 2010 3:17 am

Alright so I have phpbb3 setup on my server. I have a friend who I want to give full admin rights too ( So that he can access the /adm page ) Even though my friend has admin privileges and even has a rank that says "site admin" they still don't have access to the /adm page how do I give the account this privilege.

EDIT: I guess the /adm page is actually called ACP so I want to add another user the ability to access the ACP page

Add him to the Global Moderator and Administrator groups in the Admin Control Panel (Users & Groups > Manage Groups.)

Note that he won't be able to purge the cache, clear logs and a few other tasks because he is not a founder. If you wish to make him a founder, go to the Admin CP > Manage Users, select your friend's account and check Founder.

How did you give it to them?
If they have ANY Admin permissions, they should see a link to the ACP in the footer of the board.
and even has a rank that says "site admin"
Ranks are purely cosmetic. They give no powers at all.

As the above poster stated, adding them to the "Administrators" group should give them most powers.
Be very careful who you give "founder" status to. A new founder can easily demote the original founder.

Yes I know to be careful about who I make founder. I can not find a way to make the other user into a founder, could one of you give a step by step guide, ( ex: 1. click groups and permissions 2. on the left site click xxxx) etc that would be great

Thanks!

"Founder is just a flag on the username, not a permission, so you need to use "Manage users" to manage their username directly. There is a checkbox for "Founder" on the first page.

Try purging your cache.

I'd be surprised if purging the cache was necessary.
More likely, that user had to log out and back in again to get the new permissions.
