How do I get rid of 'Index page' in the title bar?

Post by sb_stefan » Wed Apr 21, 2010 6:58 pm

For example, when I browse this forum, my title bar says "php • View forum - 3.0.xSupport Forum - Mozilla Firefox". When I browse my forum, the title bar says "(Name of my forum) • Index page - Mozilla Firefox". How do I get rid of the words 'Index page' in that bar?

OPEN index.php

FIND:

Code: Select all

page_header($user->lang['INDEX']);
REPLACE WITH:

Code: Select all

page_header($user->lang['']);

Thanks, that worked fine but the "• " is still there which looks kinda funny when it now says "(Name of my forum) • - Mozilla Firefox". How do I fix that?

I made a bet with myself that you would be back asking that.

OPEN styles/prosilver/templates/overall_header.html

FIND:

Code: Select all

<title>{SITENAME} &bull; <!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} &bull; <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} &bull; <!-- ENDIF -->{PAGE_TITLE}</title>
REPLACE WITH:

Code: Select all

<title>{SITENAME} &nbsp; <!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} &bull; <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} &bull; <!-- ENDIF -->{PAGE_TITLE}</title>

Well, then you probably knew that I was gonna be back a third time too! :lol:
Ok, let's see if I can explain this properly.

It looks fine when I'm on my start page now, it says "(Name of my board) - Mozilla Firefox"

BUT

When I go to one of my forums it says "(Name of my board) View forum - (name of forum) - Mozilla Firefox"

But I want to say (like it does on this board) "(Name of my board) • View forum - (name of forum) - Mozilla Firefox"

So, you do NOT want the bullet on the index page but you DO want it in the other pages?

OPEN styles/prosilver/template/overall_header.html

FIND:

Code: Select all

<title>{SITENAME} &bull; <!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} &bull; <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} &bull; <!-- ENDIF -->{PAGE_TITLE}</title>
REPLACE WITH:

Code: Select all

<!-- IF SCRIPT_NAME eq 'index' --><title>{SITENAME} &nbsp; <!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} &bull; <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} &bull; <!-- ENDIF --></title><!-- ELSE --> <title>{SITENAME} &bull; <!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} &bull; <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} &bull; <!-- ENDIF -->{PAGE_TITLE}</title><!-- ENDIF -->

I replaced the code like you said, and now I get this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '(' in /home/a4242456/public_html/cache/tpl_prosilver_overall_header.html.php on line 17

I did worse than that. The correct replacement code is this (I have corrected it above and tested it):

Code: Select all

<!-- IF SCRIPT_NAME eq 'index' --><title>{SITENAME} &nbsp; <!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} &bull; <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} &bull; <!-- ENDIF --></title><!-- ELSE --> <title>{SITENAME} &bull; <!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} &bull; <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} &bull; <!-- ENDIF -->{PAGE_TITLE}</title><!-- ENDIF -->

I also wrote a tutorial a while ago on how to achieve this, you can view it @ Remove/change the "Index page" on the homepage of a phpBB forum.

It's pretty self explanatory and an easy tutorial to follow, that's if you can't get steve's code working properly.
