Making a fresh install with old data

Post by SoutlinK »

Hi guys.

First of all I want to say that my english is very poor, im sorry. I will try to explain my problem the best I can.

I have a stable forum version (3.0.7 PL1). It works well apparently but, permissions are crazy. I set a permissions to an user and after a few mins its change automatically. But it is not the main problem. Really its not a problem, its a question.

Can I make a fresh install of my forums but saving all the basic info. With info I mean. Users, posts, forums, PM and things like that. And delete tables, columns and permissions and files that are not default, etc?

I hope that I explained well my problem. If not, please let me know it, and I will try to explain it better.

Thanks you.

Do a backup on ACP -> Maintenance and choose only the tables you want to restore later on.

Not if you don't backup the phpbb_acl_* tables and dropping columns is very simple to do :p.

Witch are the most important tables? (I mean the tables that contain data that can not be configurable again)

In my opinion the primary tables are:
_config
_forums
_groups
_poll_options
_poll_votes
_posts
_privmsgs
_privmsgs_folder
_privmsgs_to
_ranks
_reports
_topics
_users
_user_group
_zebra

(and the _acl_* tables ofc, but you dont wanna them now :P)

The rest is up to you. For example, if you have custom bbcodes then it's good to backup de _bbcodes table, otherwise it's useless. If you have custom groups, then you probably want to backup the _groups table as well. And so forth.

Have a quick look at http://wiki.phpbb.com/display/DEV/Tables

In your case I think you should backup all tables but the _acl_* ones.
