Re: Restore from Backup Error

Post by easternanglers » Thu Oct 07, 2010 7:09 am

I've been exchanging emails and have just finished speaking to them on the phone and they won't budge on it at all. I even threatened to move 35 domains elsewhere and they won't do it. The only thing they would say is that I'll have to re-write the script. They wouldn't restore the database either. So I'm stuffed I guess.

Have you tried a restore using phpmyadmin via your hosting control panel?
What errors are your receiving with bigdump?

The hosts don't provide PHPmyadmin.

The error was as mentioned earlier

If you will email me the compressed backup file and PM me an FTP account, I will restore the database. I will PM you the email address to use.

Also, paste the contents of your config.php file into a PM to me.

Steve , I really appreciate the help you and Bob have provided.

I took a quick census of the members and they were all happy to start afresh and take the opportunity to restyle the site into a leaner animal as it had become a bit clunky. So we'll be implementing auto prune and resisting the temptation to put in too much data that isn't used.

So I've set up a new build and we're off and running and it's nice to see that of our 700 members , within 8 hours 170 have re-registered.

Rather than put them through upheaval and confusion again , they want me to stick with new site.

It has highlighted a dreadful support system with my provider Fasthosts and I have decided to let the contract run until expiry when I will move elsewhere.

It is reassuring to know that there is a way to restore the site with the support of PHPBB if this happens again.

Thanks again for your offer to help and hope you don't take offence by not taking you up on it now I've explained why we'll stick with the new site.

Thanks again, Neil
