Bandwidth issues

Post by Schuhby » Fri Nov 26, 2010 7:04 pm

Hi

I have a small forum with less than 30,000 posts, 750 members and I've reached over 10 gigabites of bandwidth.. Can anyone suggest a reason for this please, I'm at a loss.

Thank you in anticipation.

It's dependant on how many people visit and how often and how much they look at.

Something else to look at would be if anyone is leeching your bandwidth for images.

You should be able to see that in the site stats for your domain.

Hi Kevin

Nothing much going on jpeg wise - I'm at a loss, I have around 600 visit a day plus the bots. I've banned many of the bots but they still come back.

I'd have thought my forum was very small really.

Banning them would possibly only stop them seeing in to the site but it wouldn't stop them actually going to the address. That uses bandwidth.

Maybe ask your hosts if there is a better breakdown of where the bandwidth is going so you can narrow it down.

It might just be a case of you outliving the space you have and it's time to upgrade the hosting package.

I've up-graded to 50gb monthly bandwidth, I only had 10gb before.

Thank you for your help Kevin, it's very much appreciated!

A lot depends on how many are active, plus if you have been doing file transfers that will add to your bandwidth, I would say for that many posters and posts you are nearing your bandwidth limit, have you tired deleting some of the older posts can help.

I thought of deleting some of the older posts but am very aware of the valuable resource these posts are to my members so decided not too. I have up-graded to 50gb a month bandwidth now, it only cost an additional £18.33 on top of my previous costs for the year. I'm now paying just under £62.00 a year which is fine.

Another point on this, the bots take up resources and don't seem to stay out of forums with no access given.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Deleting posts won't affect your daily bandwidth at all.
