Potential account hack-in attempt?

Post by Alphacarbon »

As of Monday, every time I try to log into my account after I've been logged off for a while, I find that my login attempts have been exceeded and I have to enter the visual code confirmation to unlock my account before I login. I asked other users and I seem to be the only one having this issue. Is there a way to determine the IP on my last unsuccessful login attempt?

Login attempts are not logged unless it's a failed ACP login. You would need a MOD to do that or to just flip through your access logs.

from what I have heard lately there seems to be some type of bot attack on phpbb boards going around. It even apparently hit phpbb.com lately as well.

they can't get in, but they keep banging on the door until they hit the max number of retries and then move on to the next username and/or the next board.

I would guess that it is scraping usernames and maybe just admin names and then trying to brute force the password.

Are there any MODs to log logins, at least for a specific user? I know my account keeps getting hit, so if I can gather a few offensive IPs, maybe I can save the board some grief.

Can someone please recommend something? This is just getting worse. It's becoming ridiculously annoying.

Your access logs would be the only option.

Where can I find those? Sorry if that's a stupid question.

They would be in your website's control panel.

I noticed that yesterday. I were somehow logged out and need to do a confirmation to log in.

If you need support, I suggest you to use the Support Request Template for your questions on this board. If you have some serious problems, the Support Toolkit can fix it (depends on the problem).

Has anyone else been suffering from this? Our forum is still getting hit by it and it's becoming a real nuisance. Has anyone come up with a clever way to combat it?
