Merging topics

Post by vigge_swe » Wed Jul 06, 2011 4:38 pm

Is it possible to merge two large topics (One is 1756 pages the other is 300 pages). The mod tools wont allow me to merge more than 30 posts as a time, as the display tools is broken (no matter what you put in, it always resets to 30), the mark all button only marks the 30 first posts and there is no "Just merge the topics already" button.

When viewing the forum the topics are in, click on "Moderator Control Panel".

Nothing happens when you click "Select for merge" in pic 2

When did your problem begin? When trying to merge 2 topics
Please describe your problem. When trying to merge 2 topics from MCP, the "Select for merge" link does nothing at all. When trying to merge 2 topics by going into the topic, use quick-mod, chose merge topics, only 30 posts at a time can be merged, as the display options reset back to 30, and the "mark all posts" link only marks the first page. This is convenient when the thread 1 got 10k posts and thread 2 got 50k

I just noticed one more thing: If I set the "Posts per page" option to more than 130, the topics wont load, it would just refresh the forums listing page, much like the "Select for merge" link does. Maybe, when trying to merge the threads, it tries to load more than this 130 post limit, and fails in doing so??

Edit: Yes, I have confirmed this, if trying to merge two smaller threads (one with 17 posts and one with 10), the third pic comes up.

Edit2: I just ran this command in phpMyAdmin which I created:

Code: Select all

UPDATE phpbb_posts SET `topic_id` = 2 WHERE `topic_id` = 509
Where topic 2 is the destination topic wiht 55k posts, and topic 509 is the source topic, with 8.5k posts. Then I truncated the phpbb_topics table and rebuilt it with the topics_rebuild.php script I found somewhere on here. It succefully merged the threads with no issues. Maybe topic merges should be done in this way instead of trying to load all posts?
