Hello,

A late follow-up, in case somebody may find the information some day.

I gave up on understanding the problem at this point, however, later on, I moved to a dedi. And, this time, no more version check problem.

Previous bugged configuration : OVH Premium web hosting with included SqlPrivé database handling. New working configuration : Kimsufi 16G with Debian Squeeze.

So, case solved, even if the reason behind the problem will forever remain a mystery :)

I have the same problem in my phpBB version 3.0.12.
I run the first script of the message viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2143930#p13074696 and returned this message:
php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known

After, I run the script of the message viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2143930#p13076858 and returned this message:

Code: Select all

version.phpbb.com/phpbb/30x.txt: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known
theexiled.pwnageservers.com/test/file.txt: this is a file
www.gamers.org/pub/idgames2/planetquake/planetstarsiege/foo.txt: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known
www.google.com/robots.txt: User-agent: * Disallow: /search Disallow: /sdch ...
what's happening ?

Thanks.

Sounds like your host's DNS server may be having issues.

Thank you to answer me but I don't know how the DNS server can interfere on the version check.

Well, it only resolved half of the domains in the test script. If it can't resolve the phpbb.com domain, then it can't connect to check the version.
