Ongoing Spam attack making forum so slow it keeps timing out

Post by OreGal »

Could really use some help here.

Over the last few days, our site was massively attacked by spammers from Russia and China. I think there are more than 100,000 posts now from them!

I have disabled the board temporarily but they are still logged in and my host had this to say tonight

"I checked the server and it looks like the new posts are what is slowing down the server. There were many mysql processes that are queuing up, that is what is slowing the app down. This is also why the 'too many connections' error."

I have read the current spam posts and plan on making those changes BUT...

right now I can't do anything because the site is so slow and eventually just times out due to the number of new posts. Also, they keep logging in even though board is down. How do I disable log ins for the time being?

help! Thank you!

If you can access the ACP it doesn't take long to set up the Q&A plugin.

To disable registrstration ACP > General tab > User registration settings > Account activation > Disable registration
