you set the time zone for guests and the default in the admin panel.
then you and everyone that registers will set what they want in the user control panel.

I have the guest one set, but I do not know where to find the default. Where is this located?

that is the default. guests and new members get that settings when they register.
whatever you set in the admin panel for guests/default is what will show up in the timezone box on the registration page. the registrant can change it during the registration process or leave it as is and change it later if they wish.

if this is not what is happening on your board then please explain what is happening.

thanks,
robert

This is set correctly (Pacific time, -8) in the ACP but when new users register it defaults to Mountain time (-7).

go to your admin panel to the board settings and uncheck daylight savings time.

that is not an automatic thing. you have to turn it off and on whenever the time changes.

I just found the exact same problem on one of my test boards and I had not turned off the daylight savings time when it changed a couple of months ago.

I wish this would have worked but unfortunately it didn't. I already had it set to "No", but I tried changing it to yes (No change) and then back no no again (and again, no change.) Is the setting cached? Do I need to refresh anything?

not sure if it is cached. turn it off and then purge the cache and see what happens. also be sure to refresh your browser so you are not looking at a cached page there.

I see what you are talking about. the default is set to -8 but the drop down is defaulted to -7

I notice that on the registration page you have set some custom profile fields.

for a test, rename your ucp.php file to ucp.php_old and upload a new unmodified copy of that file and test.

you may also have to upload an unmodified copy of ucp_register.html as well.

if it still does not work then remove the new copies and rename your others back.

this is to find out if your MODs to those files is what is causing the problem.

Replaced ucp.php (I had modified that file) with a fresh downloaded copy right from the PHPBB site. That didn't solve it. (I purged the cache to make sure).

ucp_register.html was never modified.

well, that uses up all of my ideas. maybe someone will come along later that can help. it is getting quite late here on this side of the states so it may be tomorrow before anyone else comes along. or it may not.

who knows.

sorry I couldn't help you.

This may be a bug. My test installation adds one hour to the default dropdown in the registration screen from what is set in the ACP, just like yours. I will investigate some more and report it as a bug if it is. The work around would be to set the default in the ACP to Alaska Standard Time.

EDIT:

Hmm. If I set the default timezone in the ACP to UTC, the dropdown displays UTC +1 as its default. But if I set it to Pacific Standard time (UTC -8) the dropdown displays Pacific Standard time correctly.

I am going to report this as a bug anyway.

I don't currently have a clean install of 3.0.10 to test but on my updated boards it is working correctly.
