Updating from 3.0.8 to 3.0.10

Post by Last Man Standing »

Hello!

I want to update from 3.0.8 to 3.0.10. I don't have any MODs so I just need the changed files, but don't know where to find them.

Thank you.

Download the full version from here http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/olympus.php?from=submenu
Unzip to your desktop.
From the downloaded files/folders delete the config.php file and the files & images folders.
Using a good FTP client like FileZilla upload the remaining files/folders overwriting the files on your webserver.
In your browser go to http://yourboard/install/database_update.php and let it run to completion.
Delete the install folder.
Done.

Please note: Any 3rd party styles will also require updating, style and board versions must match

Thank you for your reply, but how come I have to go to the trouble of uploading all files and not just changed files?
And another question: If I had any MODs, I could do the code changes or they are unavailable? I need to know this to decide if to install MODs or not.

If you would like to make all changes manually be my guest, but the method I suggested is the quickest and most foolproof way possible.
If you had MOD's you would use the auto update package.

Well, I'm new to phpBB3 but I think you are wrong on this one, pal. If I had any MODs, I would be forced to do the code changing manually. The update function can't be a solution.
I'm still not clear on how come there are no changed files only. In phpBB2 there were.

Surely Pit$Bull is right! See the Downloads page. The Update Package is specific for modified boards. It will try to merge the modifications of the latest version in the current board files and will notify you on conflicts. Those conflicts may require manual updating.

If you want the new files only, you can have a look in the Update Package: /install/update/new.

From the Update Packages pages there is the option to download only changed files. But, with many FTP clients it is simply a matter of selecting all and dragging and dropping, so I can't see that it is any easier with one set of files or the other. There may be some saving in transfer time.

What is the difference between patch files and changed files?

Changed files are the files with the changes in them, the patch files are just patch files.

I still don't get it, but nevermind.

How does the updater know what changes I've made? For example, I've made some minor modifications to the CSS file.

It compares what it is expecting with what you have.
