Installed phpBB: now what?

Post by nicky9499 »

Hi guys,

I've just installed phpBB for my website (kris.singaporevirtualairlines.org). The final page tells me I can access administrator functions at (kris.singaporevirtualairlines.org/adm) but I get a Server Not Found error for both of these addresses. How should I go about setting up my forum now?

Edit: Softaculous was used for the install.

Regards,
Nicholas

Sounds like you used a one click install, a true install using the uploaded phpBB files would finish with you already in the ACP.

You can't get to the ACP by going to that link, you have to use the one at the bottom of the board. Please fill out the Support Request Template Generator including the proper URL to your new board and post it back here to enable us to assist you better.

Edit: (after you supplied more information) We do not support scripts made by other sites or the boards created by them, you would have to ask them for any questions you have about the installation. An alternative would be to do a fresh install using the files from here.

When logged in as ans administrator, at the bottom of the page below the

Code: Select all

				Powered by phpBB © 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007 phpBB Group
							Forum hosting by SiteGround.com
you will see a link to Administration Control Panel.

From looking at your index page there is a missing imageset and the style appears to have not been fully updated and there may be other problems as well.

As you are just starting out we would seriously urge you to drop the package from your host and use the Latest Version from here. Host installs use modified files and database schemas that we can not fully support.

One click Installers from hosts, usually have a different set of files, then the default phpBB Installation, which can be found here at phpBB.com

Usually, what I do, is once my website is visible on the Internet, is download the latest version of phpBB from phpBB.com, and upload all the files into my public_html folder, and then browse to http://yourdomain.com/install/index.php which will allow you to proceed with the installation.

In my opinion, this is the only way, I currently know of, to be sure, you have all the files, from the "vanilla" installation of phpBB, and not the files used by a Host's One Click Installer.

Just a suggestion folks

Best,

well, if you do not install the host version in the first place then you don't have to worry about it.

once you have your hosting account, you simply upload the files from here, setup your new blank database using your hosting control panel and then install as normal.

poof, you're done.

Hi guys,

Thank you all for the advice. I will uninstall the Softaculous package and figure out how to go about a manual install and will post back if I encounter any difficulty.

Cheerio,
