What is your board's URL? http://www.huts.org/phpBB3
Who do you host your board with? MediaTemple
How did you install your board? Someone else installed my board for me
What is the most recent action performed on your board? Update from a previous version of phpBB3
Is registration required to reproduce this issue? No
Do you have any MODs installed? No
What version of phpBB3 did you update from? can't remember
What styles do you currently have installed? not sure
What language(s) is your board currently using? english
Which database type/version are you using? MySQL 5
What is your level of experience? New to PHP and phpBB
When did your problem begin? 1 week ago approximately
Please describe your problem. Here is the error message

"Deprecated: Function set_magic_quotes_runtime() is deprecated in /nfs/c02/h10/mnt/42454/domains/huts.org/html/phpBB3/common.php on line 106"

I need to update the forum software but can't access the admin control panel to check the current version, when I login as admin a blank screen comes up with the above error in the header. I believe my best bet is to install the latest version less the config file, and /images and /files. Am I correct?

Yes.

You're currently running 3.0.0. The error you have was fixed about 7 versions after that.

*NOTE: Before proceeding backup all files and the database.*
  • Upload all new files from a download of the full version, EXCEPT for config.php, the /images and /files folders.
  • Go to yoursite.com/forumfolder/install/database_update.php
  • Let that run and then delete the install folder.
  • You now have a new up to date board containing all your users and posts but without any MODs that you might have had installed.
