Google adsense query - index_body.html

Post by edgar davids »

I can't find where to ad adsense code in the index_body.html. Nothing in Advertisements in phpBB3 support page references index_body.html

I'm asking about this file due to the 2nd post in this topic;

Try putting it just before:

Code: Select all

<!-- INCLUDE overall_footer.html -->
Refresh the template. If that doesn't do what you want experiment.

Advertisements in phpBB3 support page really needs updating then, the information appears old and no longer relevant. I say it's no longer relevant and inaccurate due to the 2nd post in the thread below;

What are you talking about? The post in the topic you refer to (phpBB doesn't have threads) links to the Knowledge Base article which is where the information about not putting Google ads in the footer is mentioned.

In the 2nd post in the thread How do I add Google Adsense to a PhpBB forum, Mick who is part of the Support Team writes;
Mick wrote:Knowledge Base - Advertisements in phpBB3

Take particular note of the important notice half way down regarding Google ads. Due to the google terms and conditions, the ads should only go in the index_body.html, viewtopic_body.html and viewforum_body.html files. Do not put them in the overall_header or footer.

You need to refresh the template to make the changes show up.
Now, index_body.html is not mentioned anywhere in Knowledge Base - Advertisements in phpBB3, so where did Mick get that information from. As I said, UPDATE THE INFORMATION!

The KB you refer to isn't supposed to be a be all and end all and couldn't possibly cover every possible scenario. I suggested where to put the code and, presumably, it did what you wanted, but that wouldn't necessarily work for another user. Of course, you could always have experimented, that's how most of us find where to put things. If you feel that the index_body.html information needs adding you could always contact the KB author and ask him to do it.

also, the article about putting advertisements in phpbb is a very generalized set of instructions about ads in general. google adsense happens to have very specific TOS about where you can place their ad code.

for other types of ads, there is no such restriction.

There is also this article - https://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/insert ... in-phpbb3/ - which does mention index_body.html.

what does that mean? the guides you have already seen are "good" guides.
it really isn't that hard.

if you put adsense in the overall_header and/or the overall_footer files you will be in violation of google's TOS.

other than that, you follow the guides already given for anywhere else you want to put it.

I think I found my answer; if I randomly search for what I need and collate all the facts I think are relevant, then put that into practice. I thought I was posting in a Support forum, my mistake.'

You have been given two article about how to implement SOMEONE ELSE'S SOFTWARE. You are rather ungrateful.

what part of that was not constructive?

you asked for things you had already been given, I explained that to you and also explained why there was a difference between adsense and other types of ads that you can put on your board. I see no part of that as not being constructive. WHat I see is that you simply don't like the answers you are given so you tend to argue about them.
sorry, but just because you don't like the answer or don't believe it or simply don't understand it, does not make it the wrong answer. that is why people come here for help, to get the answers to their questions from people that usually know more about this than they do.

luck,
robert

Close Mick, but no cigar (got the below from another post);
Kevin Clark wrote:The highest up the board you can put it without contravening the T&Cs is at the top of the index_body.html file, just after the <!-- INCLUDE overall_header.html --> line.
Let's not resort to guesswork and provide correct information. Thankyou to Kevin Clark for the correct information.
